Wireless penetration testing

Wireless networks are everywhere and offer great flexibility. However, the introduction of wireless networks into business environments extends your logical perimeter, thereby presenting an easier exploitation path for attackers. From rogue access points to weak encryption algorithms, threats to wireless networks are unique, bringing significant risks.

A WLAN (wireless local area network) penetration test can help you identify vulnerable access points into your environment and prevent determined attackers from installing a rogue wireless access point on your network without your knowledge.

The Wi-Fi threat presented by criminal hackers

Attackers configure a wireless card to act as a counterfeit access point (often using similar names, etc. to fool users into thinking it is a legitimate network). Once unsuspecting users log in to the counterfeit network, criminal hackers can intercept and record Internet traffic, gathering proprietary information, logins, passwords, intranet server addresses and valid network and station addresses. The counterfeit access point also allows criminal hackers to steal Internet bandwidth, transmit spam, use your network as a springboard to attack others or masquerade as you, leading to financial or legal consequences.

Moreover, counterfeit access points are hard to trace, since they may be given the same SSID and BSSID as a nearby Wi-Fi network and they can be shut off instantly.

The benefits of completing a wireless network penetration test

  • Get real-world insight into your vulnerabilities.
  • Detect default Wi-Fi routers.
  • Identify rogue or open access points.
  • Spot misconfigured or accidentally duplicated wireless networks.
  • Flag security vulnerabilities in Bluetooth technology.
  • Identify insecure wireless encryption standards (such as WEP).

Reduce costs and get accurate results with IT Governance’s expert testing

IT Governance’s industry-certified penetration testers perform a rigorous test – based on the OSSTMM (Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual) – of your Wi-Fi network to identify any vulnerabilities that might be exploited to extract data or assume control of your infrastructure.

Choose the test you need

Choose from two levels of penetration tests, according to your budget and technical requirements:

Level 1: buy online for as little as €1,900

  • Identifies vulnerabilities that leave your IT exposed.

  • Assesses the vulnerability of your network using a combination of automated scans and a series of manual assessments.

  • Enables you to assess your security posture and make more informed budgetary decisions.
