Sharon O’Reilly, GRC/GDPR consultant at IT Governance Europe, was interviewed by The Sunday Business Post before her appearance today at the GDPR Summit. She discussed the challenges facing organisations in the lead up to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
According to Sharon, these challenges include:
- Finding/sourcing the right people to drive compliance programmes;
- Determining exactly what personal data is being held and where. This is not as straightforward as it may seem – most organisations hold much more data than they realise;
- Understanding the risks in this area and implementing appropriate controls to reduce those risks; and
- Designing a compliance framework that is appropriate and robust enough to allow compliance to be managed well beyond the 25 May 2018 deadline.
Sharon will be hosting a round table at the GDPR Summit today, 12 April, discussing the practical journey for SMEs seeking to comply with the GDPR and offering advice on how Irish SMEs should approach GDPR compliance in a way that is both appropriate and effective. Please feel free to drop by and join the discussion.
