With more than 1,000 people currently employed in Northern Ireland’s flourishing cyber security sector, it is fair to say there is no shortage of cyber security experts available in and around the Belfast area. With such a demand for expertise in the area, people in the sector can earn twice the average salary in Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland’s business development agency Invest NI, believes Northern Ireland can be the number one location in the world for cyber security. This is a belief that is shared by Emily McDaid of Catalyst Inc. Connect, who said “London is no longer the go-to place” as costs to do business and live there continue to soar. This belief isn’t unfounded either, with companies, such as Black Duck, Rapid7, Proofpoint, Alert Logic and WhiteHat, having all recently invested in Northern Ireland.
The tech sector is booming, with cyber security in Northern Ireland currently at a 0% unemployment rate. David Crozier, head of strategic partnerships and engagement at CSIT, said: “Skills are so in demand at the moment, the industry is currently on course to generate salaries of £60m per annum.”
Individuals with the relevant industry knowledge are able to earn £42,500 per year, which is almost double the average salary of £23,000.
Even large companies can never be 100% secure and breaches will remain a daily occurrence. This is a catalyst to the growth this sector is experiencing in Northern Ireland. Don’t get left behind, get ahead of the curve.
